Three Tiers - Importing - Wayward Seafarers and The Port of Baltimore

Most of us know that imported wine travels from remote vineyards on foreign soils across the ocean and somehow miraculously ends up on our dinner tables. Well like most things in life, it’s just not that easy. Most of the gratitude is given to the winemaker, the beautiful vineyard, and sometimes the sommelier or retailer for getting the product here. But there are many more hands involved. People whose stories you would never see in a wine magazine or on the back of your favorite Tempranillo are directly responsible for the importation, sale, and delivery of imported wine.  For the next three episodes Klink will focus on the ever-changing but remarkably permanent Three-Tier System in three parts - Import, Distribution, and Retail/Restaurant. Partially inspired by the 1958 article I, Pencil by Leonard Read, which discusses how many lives and companies are involved in and influence the creation of the common No. 2 Pencil. See article here. On this episode we are looking behind the scenes at the importing process. Please let us know what you think by emailing us at eric@romeromiller.com Also, if you like what you hear please forward the show to others. Thanks for listening.

Make Love and Wine - Happy Valentine’s Day Podcast

Are there similarities between love making and winemaking? Listen to our special Valentine’s Podcast to find out.

Famous quotes regarding love and wine:

Wine gives us liberty, love takes it away.
Wine makes us princes, love makes us beggars.-Wycherly The Country Life

How much better is thy love than wine! -The Song of Solomon, 4:10

What though youth gave love and roses,
Age still leaves us friends and wine. -Thomas Moore 1779 - 1852 - National Airs [1815], Spring and Autumn, st. 1

The wines that one best remembers are not necessarily the finest that one has ever tasted, and the highest quality may fail to delight so much as some far more humble beverage drunk in more favorable surroundings.
H. Warner Allen -
(From the wine list of Commander’s Palace in New Orleans, LA courtesy of John McDonald, Dallas, TX)

These laid the world away; poured out the red
Sweet wine of youth; gave up the years to be
Of work and joy, and that unhoped serene,
That men call age; and those who would have been,
Their sons, they gave, their immortality. - Rupert Brooke (1887-1915) The Dead

Oh love is handsome
And love is fine
The sweetest flower
When first it’s new
But love grows old
And waxes cold
And fades away
Like summer dew - The Water is Wide (Traditional Irish)
